372 HOUSING UNIT DEMOLISHED

372 HOUSING UNIT DEMOLISHED BY FCT DEVELOPMENT CONTROL.

Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and other critical stakeholders in real housing sector have expressed their feeling over 500 Housing Units of Minanuel Estate, worth #3 billion at Lugbe Extension demolished by the officials of the Development Control

Houses demolished had reached over 80 percent completion which is to be handed over to the subscribers by the end of October, 2012 as Independent gift for less privilege.
It was alleged that the estate which is being constructed for civil servants at the FCT, was pulled down on account of unverifiable fact that the Land belongs to members of the National Assembly.
Binta Ibrahim, REDAN FCT Chairperson who spoke with Journalists at the site yesterday, described the demolition as an economic waste, stressing that it would not in any way help the transformation agenda of the present administration, wondered how the country could effectively address the issue of youth restiveness and insecurity, if such numbers that are being laid off through this demolition exercise are let out on the society.
"This is total economic waste. We want to appeal to government, particularly the Development Control of the FCDA, that the present executive in FCT REDAN is ready for discussion, We are supposed to be partners in progress" said the by chairperson REDAN.

"the recent happenings will not amount to achieve economic stability with this kind of wastage, number of workers that will be laid off as a result of this demolition, I am sure, will be more than 1,000. We are talking about peace, about security. I want to advise my members today that they should step down every development anywhere at the FCT so that we will not go back to square".
Also Festus Adebayo, the Media Consultant to the estate said that the estate was dully acquired with valid documents.
“He said,” the Company set out and acquired the Minanuel Estate Lugbe Extension one Abuja, from Messrs N.C.R & Associates in 2004, The papers and other documents to support the development are valid, free from all encumbrances before and after the company took possession of the land.”

“It is sad and provocative that, without warning or notice to us, these houses built with contributors’ money and bank loan could be demolished in one swoop in a country with over 18 million housing deficit,” he said.
He stated that it was unfortunate that government could embark on such vicious demolition at a time the country has 18 million housing deficit.
