WASH (TOILET DAY)

There are 2.5 billion people across the world without access to adequate sanitation, In sub-Saharan  Africa, 223 Million People practice Open Defection and 193 million do not have adequate  sanitary facilities, Consequently 2,000 African Children die every day from entirely preventable diarrhoeal diseases.
Nigeria being the largest population in Africa, huge proportion of these numbers of 103 people defecate in Open, current estimated show that only 32% of Nigeria’s population has access to improve sanitation facilities with 36% coverage in Urban areas as compared to 28% in rural area which lead to the death of 150,000 mainly among children annually due to diseased predominantly by poor sanitation and hygiene practices.
This can be solved, the water and sanitation crisis is caused primarily by lack of political will, overcoming the crisis requires national and local government stick to their words and implement the commitment they have made on sanitation and water.
As part of the end water poverty coalition, WaterAid is joining many across the world to launch the “keep Your Promised’ campaign, the campaign will see supporters across the globe taking action throughout the year and calling on their politicians to keep the promises made on sanitation and water.
WaterAid in Nigeria is proud to be associated with the Youth WASH Network Afirca in partnership with the Nigerian Football Federation, U-HABITAT Global Youth Programe in Nigeria and the office the National WASH Ambassador, Engr. Ebele Okeke, said Oluwaseyi Abdulmalik, Communication Offices,

The Keep your Promises campaign has 4 main demand, More Money, Better Use of Money, Improve Transparency and Make Sanitation and Water a Priority Beyond 2015.
